The play clock read 0:00 and for many loyal Cougar fans the unforgettable words, “And the Sylvania Southview Cougars are the 2008 Division II football State Champions”, were shouted over the PA system. In Massillon’s Paul Brown Tiger Stadium a group of determined teenagers executed an unblemished 15-0 season culminating with a 29-25 come from behind victory over Cincinnati Anderson.
Fast forward 10 years and this same group, now twenty-somethings, returned to 7225 Sylvania Ave. to be recognized in front of the Cougar faithful, on somewhat unfamiliar territory. You see, the grounds where much blood, sweat, and tears were shed and countless hours of conditioning and practices took place in preparation of their crowning achievement, had been transformed into Mercy Field at Mel Nusbaum Stadium. On October 26th, however, the 2008 team will be returning to their more familiar Cats Stadium, where they outscored their opponents 262-51 during their magical season. This is where another recognition will take place. This time as members of the 2018 Sylvania Schools Athletic Hall of Fame class. Congratulations players and coaches on this well-deserved honor!
