In high school team sports, achieving a significant individual milestone is a rare feat; for it to occur twice in a season is almost unheard of. This past Saturday versus Central Catholic, the Southview faithful were treated to two remarkable achievements in the same game. Senior Sam Fallis registered her 1000th dig and Junior Payton Helvey tallied her 1000th assist as the volleyball team defeated the Fighting Irish in five sets. In an exciting back and forth match, the freshmen and junior varsity players kept tally on the wall for all to see as the records inched closer. There was even a brief stoppage of play between sets to recognize the players for their accomplishments.
The Lady Cougars are currently 17-4 overall and 9-4 in the NLL and have a showdown against Anthony Wayne at home tonight. In addition, as the only Senior on this year’s squad, it is Sam’s last regular season home game. So come out to tonight’s game and cheer on Sam, Payton, and the rest of the volleyball team in their regular season finale.
